Individual health insurance is not just for individuals. One of these plans can cover multiple people, such as a family. An individual health plan is bought by individuals as opposed to through an employer or association, and can cover an individual as well as his or her family.

Some individual health insurance plans have a higher monthly premium with lower deductibles and less cost at the delivery of healthcare, and other plans have lower premiums with higher deductibles and care costs. If you plan to have a baby, this should also be taken into consideration.

Health Insurance Terms

Co-Pay

CoPay is a flat fee you will pay for a covered health service, such an x-ray or ultrasound or a doctors visit.

Deductible

Deductible is the dollar amount you must pay each calendar year before the insurance begins to pay for certain health services. In some occasions you have to pay the plan deductible first then a car insurance may apply.

Co Insurance

CoInsurance is the percentage (%) you may pay for services after you meet with a plan deductible. It is also known as "cost for sharing".

Out Of Pocket Maximum

Out of pocket maximum is the most you pay for covered healthcare services during the plan's calendar year. All of your expenses go toward this maximum. Once you reach the out-of-pocket maximum, your healthcare plan (FloridaBlue) pays 100% toward covered services and you don't pay anything until the end of the year.

Premium

Premium is the regularly scheduled amount of money you must pay each month to keep your insurance active. Premium is paid regardless if you get sick or not.

HSA

HSA (Health Savings Account) is a tax-advantaged savings account. It allows you to set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualified medical expenses, such as deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, prescriptions, dental care, vision care, and many other health-related costs.
